Dark Continents 1 & 2 take their titles from Freud’s controversial characterization of the sexual life of the adult female and assume implicitly patriarchal relationships to their female subjects, who in equal measure appear as objects and agents of the camera’s scrutiny, exaggerated social ciphers, and compendia of archetypal poses.
